If you’re looking to start a registered business, then you might be considering using a business formation service like Northwest Registered Agent or MyCorporation. These business formation companies (and other companies like them) can be very helpful if you feel overwhelmed by all the business paperwork you’re facing.
But in the Northwest Registered Agent vs. MyCorporation matchup, who comes out on top? Are there any alternatives you should consider instead? In this guide, we’ll review both Northwest Registered Agent and MyCorporation, comparing how these two options compete in terms of value, customer service, customer reviews, and more.
Let’s get started.
On the surface, MyCorporation and Northwest Registered Agent seem to be really similar: both companies can help you form and manage a business. But each company has its own unique pros and cons and company history.
MyCorporation is based out of Calabasas, California, and they offer a variety of business formation services and maintenance services. Since their founding in 1998, they’ve helped to form over one million new businesses.
Northwest Registered Agent, as their name implies, primarily focuses on offering registered agent services, but it also offers a variety of other services, including business formations. Northwest Registered Agent was actually founded the same year as MyCorporation: 1998. They’re proud to be family-owned, so they’re more of a mid-sized company compared to some competitors.
Northwest Registered Agent and MyCorporation have a fair bit of common ground as two established companies in the business formation and legal services sector. We’ll dive into these distinctions throughout this guide, but here’s a quick glance at these companies.
In our assessment of Northwest Registered Agent and MyCorporation, we evaluated each company on the basis of several different categories: business formation services, registered agent service, additional service offerings, customer feedback, and customer reviews.
Let’s take a closer look at those categories.
Both Northwest Registered Agent and MyCorporation can help you form an LLC, corporation, or nonprofit. But how much will it cost you, and what features will you get for your money? It depends.
If you choose MyCorporation, your cost will depend on what package you choose. Here’s a look at the costs for MyCorporation’s LLC formation packages:
In contrast, Northwest Registered Agent doesn’t offer different packages for LLC formation services. Instead, they charge a one-time fee of $39 (plus state fees) to form your LLC. Their service also includes access to several free trials, including a free year Northwest registered agent service, a domain name, a website builder, business address service, and more. Most of these trials are limited (usually ranging between 90 days to a year), so if you’re not paying attention, you could easily end up spending more than that $39 after the trials expire.
With either service, pay attention to the terms and conditions for all services you opt into, including renewal terms and costs. That way, you won’t be surprised by any unexpected costs (a common complaint).
As their name implies, Northwest Registered Agent offers registered agent service. So does MyCorporation. But the services aren’t identical (especially in terms of pricing).
Technically, you can serve as your own registered agent if you meet certain criteria: you’re an individual resident of your state with a physical address, and you’re present at your listed address during all normal business hours. For many small business owners, that’s not feasible. So, for practicality’s sake (and for peace of mind), hiring a registered agent service is highly recommended. This is especially true if you operate around the country; then, a truly national registered agent service like ZenBusiness, MyCorporation or Northwest Registered Agent can be extremely helpful.
Northwest Registered Agent services cost just $125 per year, and you get one year of free registered agent service if you use them to form your business. Their customer support team also told us they offer volume discounts if you hire them as your agent in five or more states.
Meanwhile, MyCorporation charges $120 for one year of registered agent service, and the service renews at $249 per year. One year of agent service is included in the Deluxe and Premium packages, but you can also purchase registered agent service as a standalone product.
Northwest Registered Agent definitely has a lower price point for registered agent service, especially if you use them to form your business.
Registered agent service and formation services aren’t the only products you can purchase from Northwest Registered Agent or MyCorporation — which is good news if you want a variety of services from a single brand. We won’t go over every single service offered by both of these brands; this guide would be miserably long if we did. But we can give you a decent picture of the services you could get with these companies.
Northwest Registered Agent offers a variety of business services beyond their formation and agent services. They can help you file your annual report or get an EIN. They also have a few services to help you establish your business identity, such as website building and web hosting, domain name registration, phone service, SSL security, and mail forwarding (in select states). They can even help you register a trademark.
Meanwhile, MyCorporation assists with a variety of business compliance tasks, including annual reports, filing amendments, getting a foreign qualification, applying for an EIN, and more. They also offer a business license compliance package; they’ll research what licenses and permits your business needs and guide you to the forms that you need. Another intriguing offering is their assistance with unemployment insurance and payroll taxes; not all services offer these programs.
When we’re assessing a company, we like to look at third-party review sites like Trustpilot or the Better Business Bureau; we find that these are great sources to get an unbiased view at what customers are saying. So we took a look at some of the reviews for MyCorporation and Northwest Registered Agent.
MyCorporation has been around for over 25 years, but in that time, they haven’t collected a ton of reviews on sites like Trustpilot. As of this writing, they’ve got 279 reviews, and their average score is 3.7 out of 5 stars. While many customer reviews mention helpful customer service, a good number of customers complain about poor customer support interactions, slow processing for incorporation services, and more.
Additionally, it’s worth noting that MyCorporation is not BBB accredited. If you value BBB accreditation, you’ll want to look elsewhere.
Northwest Registered Agent also has a poor showing on Trustpilot. Their reviews are extremely polarizing. Granted, there are only 129 of them at the time of this writing, but 47% of those reviews are 5-star reviews, and a whopping 41% of them are scathing 1-star reviews. While not everyone has a poor experience with Northwest Registered Agent, a good number of customers do. In particular, negative reviewers frequently mention confusing pricing structures, billing for unwanted services, and unhelpful customer support representatives.
If you’re looking for a brand with a long history of customer service, you won’t find it with Northwest Registered Agent or MyCorporation. ZenBusiness is a much better option, with a 4.8/5 star average across 24,506 reviews.
When you run into a question about pricing, one of your filings, or your business, you want to know that you’re going to get help quickly (and that the customer service provider treats you like a priority while you’re interacting with them). That’s why we’ve taken some time to assess Northwest Registered Agent and MyCorporation’s customer support networks.
Northwest Registered Agent offers customer support by phone, email, or a contact form on their website. We couldn’t find any posted customer support hours. When we’ve tested their support channels with a few of our own questions, we got detailed answers, and we received an email response within one business day.
Judging by customer reviews, though, the customer support from Northwest Registered Agent can be a bit of a mixed bag. Some reviewers have a smooth, positive experience, but if you look at negative reviews, person after person mentions that customer support is nonexistent or unhelpful. If you’re looking for help with your business, the last thing you want is to be stuck waiting on support.
MyCorporation offers customer support by live chat, phone, and a Contact Us form on their website. Their posted support hours run from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. PT on weekdays only. Interestingly, when we tried to reach out to their Live Chat channel during those hours, we got a message that their support was closed (this has happened to us more than once, too, so we’re wondering if their live chat is truly an option or just an old feature they haven’t deleted). We also waited a while to get an answer to our contact form request. We’ve had better luck with phone support, though.
A good number of customer reviews mention a positive experience with customer support, but some customers had trouble getting the assistance they needed.
All told, both Northwest Registered Agent and MyCorporation have room for improvement with their customer service departments.
If you’ve read this far, you might be hesitant to use either Northwest Registered Agent or MyCorporation; while each brand has some intriguing offerings, their customer reviews leave something to be desired.

Northwest Registered Agent actually only offers one package for LLC formations, but it includes a name availability check, the preparation and filing of your formation documents, and a year of registered agent service for a total of $39 (plus state fee).
Northwest Registered Agent is a family-owned LLC formation services company founded in 1998. If you’d like to see how this company compares to other LLC websites, check out the comparison reviews below.
Northwest Registered Agent compared to:
Neither Northwest Registered Agent nor MyCorporation offers publication services for states like New York, which require you to publish a notice about your new business in certain publications to alert the public about your entity. It’s a shame that these brands don’t offer these essential services.
Here at ZenBusiness, we offer formation services along with state-specific compliance requirements like publication. If you need help with NY publication requirements, check out our New York publication service for more information.
Compared to some competitor services, Northwest Registered Agent and MyCorporation keep the upsells to a minimum. Yes, both brands present extra services that you can opt into, but most of the offers are presented in one place as opposed to constantly nagging you with extra services.
That said, with either service, be sure to read the fine print on each page to ensure that you understand what’s being offered, the price, if it’s a renewable service after a free trial, and so on.
MyCorporation promises they’ll do what they can to make things right if you aren’t satisfied with your service. But if you’re still not satisfied after their resolution, you can get a refund if you meet certain criteria. Specifically, you must request a refund within 60 days of MyCorporation beginning work on your services.
Northwest Registered Agent’s stated refund policy is somewhat vague. Refunds can only be given if you request one within 90 days of purchase. Even then, their terms of service page doesn’t promise any refunds; the site explicitly states that all refunds are granted at their sole discretion, so refunds come on a case-by-case basis (if they happen at all).
Note: With any business formation service, you can’t get a refund on money paid for state filing fees. Those fees are always non-refundable
It depends on what you pay for. Northwest Registered Agent bases their turnaround speeds on each state’s processing capabilities, so some states take days and others take weeks. If your state offers expedited processing, you’ll have the opportunity to expedite within the order form.
MyCorporation doesn’t explicitly state its processing times, but they do say that online filings typically take between 24 and 48 hours, while mail-order forms can range between 2 and 14 business days. MyCorporation does allow you to upgrade to expedited service, which they say cuts processing time by up to 85%.
You absolutely can form an LLC on your own. Using LLC services can be really helpful, though. Services like ZenBusiness, Northwest Registered Agent, and MyCorporation can all take some of the paperwork off your plate. These services can also help you navigate your state’s business compliance rules and regulations, which might be trickier than you expect.
Northwest Registered Agent specializes in offering affordable registered agent services, which you’ll see most prominently through their free year of registered agent service if you form your company with them. MyCorporation’s main advantage is its Standard package, which includes incorporation services and a library of forms, such as an LLC operating agreement, member certificates, and other forms.
That said, since these brands both have mixed online customer reviews, we think there are other competitors with bigger advantages.
Northwest offers registered agent service for $125 per year. They also offer an annual report service, which is available for $100 (plus state fees). MyCorporation offers a few different compliance services, including registered agent service for $249 per year ($120 the first year) and annual report filing for $134 (plus state fees). They also offer MaintainMyBiz for an annual fee of $250, which helps you with up to four business filings per year.
