If you’re looking to start a registered business, then you might be considering using a business formation service like Bizee (formerly known as Incfile) or LegalZoom. These LLC formation services (and other companies like them) can be very helpful if you feel overwhelmed by all the business paperwork you’re facing.

But in the Bizee vs. LegalZoom matchup, who comes out on top? Are there any alternatives you should consider instead? In this guide, we’ll review both Bizee and LegalZoom, comparing how these two options compete in terms of value, customer service, customer reviews, and more.

Let’s get started.

About LegalZoom and Bizee (Formerly Incfile)

On the surface, LegalZoom and Bizee seem to be really similar: both companies can help you form and manage a business. But each company has its own unique pros and cons and company history.

LegalZoom first got their start in 2001, entering the market with LLC formation services and help writing wills and testaments. Since then, they’ve greatly expanded their online legal service offerings, and they’re one of the few companies to offer legal services for both business and personal needs. They’ve helped people with more than 9 million different legal needs.

Bizee is just a little bit younger than LegalZoom. It was founded in 2004 as Incfile and rebranded as Bizee in 2023. Bizee offers a variety of services for small business owners, including business formations, registered agent service, compliance help, and more.

Key Facts About Bizee and LegalZoom

Bizee and LegalZoom have a fair bit of common ground as two established companies in the business formation and legal services sector. We’ll dive into the key similarities and differences between them throughout this guide, but here’s a quick glance at these companies.

LegalZoom

  • Huge volume of customers (over 9 million served)
  • Service offerings include a mix of business and personal legal services
  • Offers a free LLC formation package (plus state fees), but other fully-featured packages fall on the pricier side

Bizee

  • Not accredited by the Better Business Bureau
  • Large volume of customers (but not as big as LegalZoom’s)
  • Only provides business-related services
  • Offers a free LLC formation package (plus state fees)

LegalZoom vs. Bizee: Our Full Review

In our assessment of Bizee and LegalZoom, we evaluated several different categories: each company’s LLC formation service, registered agent service, other services, customer feedback, customer support, and turnaround times.

Let’s dive in.

Business Formation Services

Both Bizee and LegalZoom offer business formation services for LLCs and corporations (and others, but in this comparison, we’ll focus on the most popular structures).

Let’s say you want to start an LLC. Intriguingly, both Bizee and LegalZoom offer a free LLC formation package (plus state fees). So if you want to get your Articles of Organization filed cheaply, both businesses have that option. But both businesses also have different packages you can choose from to get additional services.

Here’s a quick look at Bizee’s LLC package offerings:

  • Basic ($0 plus state fees): Bizee checks if your name is available and then files your Articles of Organization with standard processing (3 weeks). You also get one year of free registered agent service, a month of free virtual address service, and a tax consultation.
  • Standard ($199 plus state fees): You get everything in the basic package, plus help creating an operating agreement, getting an EIN, and filing IRS Form 2553 if needed.
  • Premium ($299 plus state fees): You get everything in the standard package as well as expedited processing (2 days), business contract templates, a domain name, a business email address, and more.

And here are LegalZoom’s offerings for LLC formation packages:

  • Basic ($0 plus state fees): LegalZoom checks if your business name is available and then files your Articles of Organization on your behalf. You’ll also get a free tax consultation.
  • Pro ($249 plus state fees): You get everything in the basic package, plus an operating agreement and EIN. You’ll also get access to a library of customizable legal templates (for one year) and a free 30-day trial to LegalZoom’s legal assistance subscription, which lets you have 30-minute consultations with an attorney in your state.
  • Premium ($299 plus state fees): You get everything in the pro package, plus several tools to help with bookkeeping, expense tracking, and invoicing.

If just LLC formation with no bells and whistles is what you’re looking for, you can get it for free (plus state fees) with either brand.

If you’re forming a corporation, you’ll find that Bizee’s corporation packages are very similar in pricing (the main difference is filing speed). LegalZoom, however, starts their corporation package offerings at $149 (plus state fees).

An important point of order: Bizee and LegalZoom both offer a lot of upsells for additional services as you’re working through their order forms, especially if you use the free LLC package. You can always opt out of these extra services, but it’s important to pay attention or else you might subscribe to services you don’t want or need without meaning to.

All told, Bizee and LegalZoom have pretty similar pricing structures, although Bizee probably edges LegalZoom out in terms of balancing affordability and value.

Registered Agent Service

Every registered business needs a registered agent, and both LegalZoom and Bizee offer registered agent services as standalone purchase options or add-ons to your business formation service. Technically, you can serve as your own registered agent if you meet certain criteria, but it’s a good idea to hire a registered agent to give you peace of mind and help ensure you’re compliant with state requirements.

If you’d like to learn more about these brands’ agent services, check out our full LegalZoom registered agent review or our Bizee registered agent review. But here’s the gist of each company’s registered agent offering:

  • Bizee: If you form your business with Bizee, you’ll get one year of free registered agent service for free. After your first year (or if you buy it as a standalone product), you’ll pay $119 per year.
  • LegalZoom: LegalZoom charges $249 per year for registered agent service.

LegalZoom has a pretty high price point for registered agent service. Bizee’s price is a lot more appealing to budget-conscious entrepreneurs, even if you don’t qualify for their first-year-free offering.

Other Service Offerings

We won’t give a comprehensive list of every service offered by both LegalZoom and Bizee. But we can give you a picture of other services available to you.

LegalZoom has a variety of both business and personal legal services. On the business side, they can help you with business licenses, annual reports, getting an EIN, writing an operating agreement, dissolving a business, getting a trademark, and other intellectual property services. On the personal law side of things, they can help with trusts, living wills, divorce, power of attorney, and more. You can also get attorney consultations for a variety of needs. They also have a partnership with Bank of America that can help you get a business bank account, which you’d see during the LLC formation process.

Bizee has a smaller service library, as they only offer business services. In addition to formation services and registered agent service, Bizee offers virtual address service, help getting an EIN or DBA, business license research, annual report service, trademark assistance, and a corporate LLC kit.

Generally speaking, LegalZoom and Bizee have similar price points for some of the same services, such as getting an EIN or drafting an operating agreement (but pricing is subject to change at any point, and prices vary from one service to another). LegalZoom definitely has a wider array of service offerings, however.

Customer Reviews

We find that checking customer reviews on third-party review sites like Trustpilot and the Better Business Bureau is a really helpful way to assess a company’s performance, so we checked out reviews for both companies.

LegalZoom and Bizee both have a very strong showing on Trustpilot, each with a similar average rating of 4.6 out of 5 stars. LegalZoom currently has almost 23,000 reviews, and Bizee has almost 22,000, so the two stack up pretty similarly (as of August 20, 2025).

LegalZoom’s positive reviews often mention helpful customer service representatives and an easy startup process. Negative reviewers often mention that they unintentionally subscribed to unwanted services or had issues getting customer support when trying to cancel services.

Bizee’s positive reviews frequently mention that the platform is easy to use. However, some users find it concerning that Bizee isn’t accredited by the Better Business Bureau; in fact, their business profile receives an F rating from the BBB for unanswered complaints from customers. Some of Bizee’s reviews mention that customers had issues getting filing problems corrected or that their customer service representative was rude or unhelpful.

Both Bizee and LegalZoom have some negative reviews, but the majority of their reviews are positive.

Customer Support

Customer support is another important category to consider; when you need help with your order or your business, you want to be confident that you’ll get answers to your questions promptly.

If you need to contact customer support, LegalZoom is available by phone; they have three numbers listed, including two dedicated lines for sales and customer care. You can also use the chat feature on their website. We tested this and got a clear answer to our question within ten minutes. Currently, the LegalZoom support team is available from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. PT on weekdays and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. PT on weekends.

Generally, LegalZoom’s customer support is appreciated in customer reviews; some even thank their support representative by name. A few reviews mention issues with customer support when trying to get help with delayed orders or trying to cancel a service.

Bizee offers customer support by email, phone, or a contact form on their website. When we reached out to them, we got prompt phone support, and they replied to our contact form question within a day. Most reviewers have a pretty positive experience with customer support, but a few reviews say that their support representative was unhelpful, especially when they tried to cancel a service they didn’t intend to purchase.

One big drawback to Bizee is their customer support availability; they’re only available on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT. If you need help on the weekends, you’ll have to wait — which can be prohibitive if your business is your weekend side hustle.

Both LegalZoom and Bizee offer decent customer support channels, but LegalZoom’s availability is a little better.

Turnaround Times

How quickly will these companies form your LLC? It depends, but if you’re in a rush, this is an important question to answer. No matter what service you use, you’ll be affected by your state’s processing speeds; LegalZoom and Bizee can’t make your Secretary of State work faster (in some states, you can pay extra state fees for faster filing at the state level). Regardless, it’s helpful to know what filing speeds you should expect from each formation company.

Bizee’s processing speeds are very clearly advertised; after you pick a business entity type and formation state, their package selection form will show you how long filing will take. For example, one state we researched showed 3 weeks as the slowest processing time, and another state took four weeks. With Bizee’s standard and basic packages, you’ll get the slower processing time (but you can expedite for an extra $50). The fastest filing speed, a 2-day turnaround, is included in Premium.

In contrast, LegalZoom offers a 5-14 day turnaround window for their standard processing speed (this timeframe doesn’t include the Secretary of State’s processing times). You can upgrade to expedited processing, which reduces their turnaround time to one business day.

Which is the best LLC service for you?

LegalZoom and Bizee are both very established business formation services, and both brands have their pros and cons. But that doesn’t mean they’re the right option for your business.

LegalZoom is appealing if you’re willing to pay extra for ongoing legal guidance or get help with both business and personal legal needs. Bizee’s biggest draw is its free registered agent service for a year if you form your business with them.

But with drawbacks like service upsells and poor BBB ratings (in Bizee’s case), you might find yourself looking into alternatives. Here at ZenBusiness, we’re proud to offer our customers excellent value on a variety of services. Like Bizee and LegalZoom, we’ll form your LLC for free (plus state filing fees). Frequently Asked Questions About Incfile (Bizee) and LegalZoom

  • The most widely recommended LLC formation package offered by Bizee is their Basic package, which is free (you just pay your state’s filing fee). With this option, you’ll receive a year of registered agent service in addition to your formation.

  • Would you like to take a look at a few other options and see if Bizee is as good as other options? Check out our comparisons of Bizee to other top-rated LLC services:

  • Both Bizee and LegalZoom present a good number of upsells throughout the business formation process (especially if you’re using the free LLC formation packages). LegalZoom offers a few more upsells for extra services, but with either brand, you’ll need to pay attention to what you’re opting into. If you’re not careful, you might end up spending more than you planned.

  • LegalZoom has a satisfaction guarantee that states you can request a refund at any time within 60 days of your initial purchase. It’s nearly identical to the ZenBusiness refund policy and one of the most reasonable in the industry.

Bizee is more strict about refunds. They only offer refunds if you request one before they forward payment to the state, and there is a $30 cancellation fee attached to them.

  • LLC formation speeds vary from state to state, and your formation service won’t have any effect on how quickly the Secretary of State processes your paperwork. In some states, you can pay extra state fees for faster filings, but this varies.

That said, each formation company has its own filing speed, which affects how quickly they get your paperwork into the state’s hands. Both Bizee and LegalZoom offer standard and expedited processing options. With Bizee, standard processing usually takes a few weeks (their promise time varies by state). Expedited processing (included in their Premium package) cuts their processing time to two days.

LegalZoom offers standard filing times that fall between 5-14 days, and their expediting filing gives you a one-day turnaround.

  • You absolutely can form an LLC on your own. Using a business formation service can be really helpful, though. Services like ZenBusiness, LegalZoom, and Bizee can all take some of the paperwork off of your plate. Business services can also help you navigate your state’s unique rules and regulations, which might be trickier than you expect.

  • LegalZoom’s biggest advantage is its experience. Over the years, LegalZoom has served millions of customers, which is a much larger number of clients than most competitors. Bizee’s biggest advantage is its affordability, especially for essential services like starting an LLC and maintaining a registered agent.

  • If you’re looking for assistance with maintaining your good standing with the state into the future, either of these companies can help. LegalZoom offers registered agent service for $249 per year, and they also have annual report service available for $99 (plus state filing fees). As for Bizee, they have an annual price point of $119 for registered agent service, and their annual report service is available for $99.
